§ Mr. CarmichaelSeparation assurance is provided for civil aircraft by air traffic control, and much of our research is aimed at improving its rôle in reducing the risk of collision.
Ideas for self-contained airborne collision-avoidance systems are kept under review, and specific proposals are studied from time to time, but at present no proposal warrants diversion of significant effort from the primary air traffic control task.
