HC Deb 23 March 1970 vol 798 c289W
Captain Kerby

asked the President of the Board of Trade what are the technical qualifications of Mrs. D. Self, which led to her appointment as a part-time member of the British Airports Authority.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

Mrs. Self has wide experience in the consumer and catering fields.

Captain Kerby

asked the President of the Board of Trade why only two of the seven members of the British Airports Authority are employed full time; and how much attendance per annum he requires the five part-time members of the authority to put in.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

It is usual for some members of the board of nationalised industries to be part time. In this way persons with wide experience in various relevant fields are able to make their expertise available in running the industry. The attendance of part-time members will vary with circumstances but must be sufficient for a proper discharge of the members' responsibilities.
