Mr. Younger

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his latest estimate of the percentage increase in net income for farmers in Scotland since 1965; and how this compares with the percentage increase in average industrial earnings over the same period.

Mr. Ross

Net incomes of farmers in Scotland are estimated to have risen by 34 per cent. between the years 1965–66 and 1968–69. Average industrial earnings in Scotland between October, 1965, and October, 1968, increased by 21 per cent.,
