HC Deb 17 March 1970 vol 798 cc95-6W
Mr. Woof

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what rep- resentations he has received concerning the proposals by the mineral valuers to impose rating assessments on the operation of shale tips; and if he will take steps to reduce the level of rating to such as can be carried within increased volume of production without harmful effects on commercial sales and employment.

Mr. Denis Howell

My right hon. Friend has received representations on behalf of the North East Development Council, the National Coal Board, the Durham and Northumberland Shale Contractors' Association, and the National Union of Mineworkers. These representations are being considered and a decision will be announced as soon as possible. Any change in the present position would require legislation.
