HC Deb 17 March 1970 vol 798 cc112-3W
Mr. Oakes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied with the safety precautions relating to dangerous drugs stored in chemists' shops; what consultations he is having on this subject; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

Regulations under Section 4 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1967 are being prepared, in consultation with the pharmaceutical profession, the police, and other Government Departments, to establish standards for the secure storage of controlled drugs in chemists' shops and on certain other premises.

Mr. Oakes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many chemist shops were broken into during 1969 and dangerous drugs stolen there-from.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

Information in the form requested could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. During the first six months of 1969, 210 charges were dealt with in England and Wales for burglary in buildings, other than dwelling houses, in which drugs controlled under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1965 or the Drugs (Prevention of Misuse) Act 1964 were stolen.
