HC Deb 16 March 1970 vol 798 c41W
Mr. John Hall

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why he includes the £1,367.9 million portfolio investments of the Trustee Savings Banks in the figure for total National Savings, in view of the fact that other institutional holdings of Government stocks are not so included.

Mr. Taverne

The figure quoted by the hon. Member represents the balance of deposits including accrued interest in the Special Investment Departments of Trustee Savings Banks at the end of 1969. It does not represent holdings of Government marketable stocks of these institutions.
