HC Deb 16 March 1970 vol 798 c43W
100. Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for Local Government and Regional Planning if he will state the amount of selective employment premium that will be withdrawn from the development areas to finance the intermediate area programmes for infrastructure costs, in particular Humber Bridge roads.

Mr. Crosland

The withdrawal of the selective employment premium will save £24 million in a full year and this will offset expenditure on the various measures to assist the intermediate areas. Part of the cost of the Humber Bridge will count against this expenditure for the purposes of public investment programming, but the method of financing its construction is a separate matter.
