asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give figures showing the total school leaving population for each year since 1963 and the number staying on for full-time education after school leaving age; and what are the forecasts for the years up to 1975.

The estimates for those aged 16 and over make no allowance for a possible secondary effect by which some who would otherwise have left at age 15 are induced, as a result of the raising of the leaving age, to remain after the age of 16.

NOTE: The forecasts after 1972, reflect the effects of the raising of the school-leaving age.
