HC Deb 16 March 1970 vol 798 cc3-4W
71. Mr. Thorpe

asked the Minister of Technology what has been the total cost of the series of advertisements inserted by his Department advertising the intermediate areas; and what advice he took to ensure that the maps contained in the published diagrams did not include railway lines already closed and exclude railway lines which are still running.

Mr. Carmichael

One advertisement has appeared specifically advertising intermediate areas. This was inserted in three national papers on Sunday, 8th March at a total cost of £6,640.

There were a number of regrettable errors on the maps.

These occurred because the advertising agency responsible did not carry out the usual checks effectively—and both Central Office of Information and the Ministry failed to observe these errors.

The advertisement was immediately withdrawn for correction.
