HC Deb 16 March 1970 vol 798 c17W
93. Mr. Driberg

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many recruits to general practice there were in England and Wales in 1969; and what percentage of these had United Kingdom or Irish qualifications.

Mr. Crossman

In the year ended 1st October, 1969, the latest period for which figures are available, 926 doctors were admitted for the first time to the medical lists of executive councils in England and Wales to provide full general medical services. Of these 77 per cent. had obtained their first medical qualifications in the United Kingdom or the Irish Republic. In the same period the total number of doctors providing full general medical services in England and Wales rose by 176 to 20,146.
