HC Deb 12 March 1970 vol 797 cc365-6W
Mr. Brooks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take steps to authorise the payment of the travelling expenses of parents who visit children placed in remand homes at considerable distance from their homes.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

While my right hon. Friend has no such power, the Supplementary Benefits Commission may be able to help when the parent is in receipt of supplementary benefit. When the relevant sections of the Children and Young Persons Act 1969 are brought into operation in October of this year, local authorities will also be able to do so.
