asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many murders and crimes of violence were reported to the police in 1969; and what were the comparable figures five, 10 and 15 years, previously, respectively.

Mr. Ross

The numbers of murders made known to the police in Scotland in 1969, 1964, 1959 and 1954 were 30, 27, 13 and 14, respectively. Corresponding figures for crimes of violence were 3,365, 2,276, 1,377 and 913.

The figures for 1969 are provisional, and those for murder have been corrected to the end of December of each year.
