HC Deb 11 March 1970 vol 797 c303W
15. Mr. Pardoe

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what percentage of the value of the United Kingdom's total production of beef and lamb is produced on hill farms.

Mr. Hoy

As the hon. Member knows hill farms are a major source of store animals for breeding and fattening elsewhere. Possibly half the sheep and a seventh of the cattle fattened in any year originally came from hill areas but much of their weight and value will have been added in the lowlands.
