HC Deb 09 March 1970 vol 797 c216W
62. Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps have been taken to pay arrears of unemployment benefit withheld from teachers dismissed by Scottish education authorities for failure to register with the General Teaching Council, following the judgment of the National Insurance Commissioner in the case of Mr. Malloch and Miss Mullen; and whether full restitution has now been made to all teachers so dismissed.

Mr. O'Malley

I understand that seven of the eight dismissed teachers who were disqualified for unemployment benefit have made successful appeals. They have been told of the arrangements for obtaining the arrears of benefit due to them, and four have so far been paid. One teacher did not appeal against her disqualification.
