HC Deb 05 March 1970 vol 797 cc147-8W
Mr. Barnett

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many unqualified teachers, as defined under Circular 15/68, will be leaving the educational service by the end of this summer; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Edward Short

Last October, counting part-timers in full-time equivalents, there were about 2,000 full-time unqualified teachers in maintained schools. After August, 1970, some of those may be recognised as qualified teachers. Others may be employed as instructors, student teachers, or ancilliaries. I do not know how many will leave the schools.
