asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity if, in view of the fact that the incidence of industrial accidents in the Darlington district is nearly twice the national average, she will list the industries in the district in which these accidents occur.

In 1969 accidents in the Darlington district in premises subject to the Factories Act occurred in the following industries:

  • Food, Drink and Tobacco.
  • Chemical and Allied Industries.
  • Metal Manufacture.
  • Engineering and Electrical Goods.
  • Vehicles.
  • Metal goods not elsewhere specified.
  • Textiles.
  • Clothing and footwear.
  • Bricks, Pottery, Glass, Cement, etc.
  • Timber, Furniture, etc.
  • Paper, Printing and Publishing.
  • Rubber.
  • Plastic Moulding and Fabricating.
  • Construction.
  • Gas.
  • Electricity.
  • Laundries, Dry Cleaning.
  • Motor Vehicle Repairs.

Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what was the total number of fatal accidents in industry in 1969; how many were unavoidable; and in how many cases were the employers found to be negligent.

The provisional total of fatal accidents in premises subject to the Factories Act in 1969 is 668. The other information is not yet available.
