§ 37. Mr. Lomasasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware of the difficulties some local authorities are now facing with slum clearance; and what action he proposes to take.
§ Mr. FreesonYes. New problems are now being thrown up by slum clearance and the scale of the problems has been shown to be greater by our conurbation studies. So my right hon. Friend is arranging for discussions with local authorities to consider how these problems can best be tackled.
§ 40. Mr. Arthur Davidsonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what estimate he has now made of the likely future rate of slum clearance.
§ 46. Mr. Silvesterasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how long he estimates it will take to eliminate or improve the 1,800,000 unfit dwellings in England and Wales.
§ Mr. GreenwoodMost local authorities have now replied to circular 92/69, which asked them for their slum clearance proposals over the next four years. In aggregate these programmes are well above the levels of recent years, but actual performance will depend on the efforts of each authority and I shall keep closely in touch with them.
