HC Deb 03 March 1970 vol 797 c97W
Mr. Ted Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity in view of the concern expressed in the Annual Report of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Factories about the level of recruiting new factory inspectors and the fact that new recruits have barely made good the wastage by resignations and retirement, what steps she is proposing to take to overcome the difficulties in recruiting more staff.

Mr. Harold Walker

The most recent annual report of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Factories relates to 1968. Since that time efforts to recruit additional inspectors have been intensified. In 1969 recruitment to the general inspectorate exceeded wastage by 14. This better trend continues.
