HC Deb 02 March 1970 vol 797 c3W
49. Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why Her Majesty's Government abstained from supporting the Security Council resolution adopted on 30th January designed to examine ways and means by which Council resolutions on Namibia, formerly South-West Africa, can be implemented.

Mr. Foley

We abstained because the Resolution was based on earlier Security Council Resolutions on which we abstained and which in our view contained proposals which were unrealistic and would be beyond the capacity of the United Nations.
