Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a further statement on his calculations on doctors' remuneration; and if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a further table showing the remuneration per week

received before the Review Body's 12th Report by all grades of hospital doctor, together with the average weekly remuneration of general practitioners alongside the weekly increases resulting from the payment on account following this 12th Report.

The table given in my reply to the hon. Member on 14th July showed the weekly remuneration of hospital doctors at the existing rates, set on 1st April, 1970, and the further increase which would result from full implementation of the Twelfth Report. The figures for general medical practitioners were based on the existing rates of fees and allowances, set on 1st January 1969, and the increase which it was estimated would result from full implementation of the Twelfth Report. The payment on account for general medical practitioners from 1st April, 1970, was secured by a provisional additional payment without changing the existing fees and allowances; this increased estimated average total payments per week to £144, which is the comparable figure with those given for hospital doctors and is £12 a week less than would have resulted from the full implementation of the Report.
