HC Deb 21 July 1970 vol 804 cc86-7W
Mr. Jopling

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whom, outside Government service, he has consulted about his proposals to construct new prisons in the north of England; and what replies he has received.

Mr. Carlisle

The Home Office is having informal discussions with representatives of all county planning authorities in the north of England about the Department's general need for sites for new prisons. These will be followed by the usual detailed consultations with the local authorities concerned about any proposal to build a prison on a particular site.
