§ 55. Mr. Dribergasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications for parole have been considered by the Parole Board; how many have been approved; whether these applications are considered by the Board as a whole or by its sub-committees or panels; and in how many cases the Board has interviewed applicants or invited other persons acquainted with applicants to give information orally.
§ Mr. CarlisleTo the end of June, the Parole Board made recommendations in 5,972 cases; 3,993 were recommended for parole, all but 5 being accepted. The board usually works in panels and does not interview, but has on rare occasions requested one of its members to interview a prisoner. Every prisoner eligible for parole who so wishes is interviewed by a member of the local review committee.
