HC Deb 16 July 1970 vol 803 c248W
55. Mr. Driberg

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications for parole have been considered by the Parole Board; how many have been approved; whether these applications are considered by the Board as a whole or by its sub-committees or panels; and in how many cases the Board has interviewed applicants or invited other persons acquainted with applicants to give information orally.

Mr. Carlisle

To the end of June, the Parole Board made recommendations in 5,972 cases; 3,993 were recommended for parole, all but 5 being accepted. The board usually works in panels and does not interview, but has on rare occasions requested one of its members to interview a prisoner. Every prisoner eligible for parole who so wishes is interviewed by a member of the local review committee.
