asked the Minister of State for Defence whether the Government proposes to proceed with the reduction of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders; and whether he will make a statement.

The planned rundown of the Army is being reviewed.

asked the Minister of State for Defence how many of the officers, non-commissioned officers and men at present serving in the 1st Battalion the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders have been informed of the regiments in which they are to serve after the reduction of the regiment, specifying the regiments concerned.

162 non-commissioned officers and 265 soldiers have been informed of postings to battalions of Scottish Division as follows:

Applications from 42 non-commissioned officers and soldiers for transfer to other arms, corps or divisions of infantry are still being considered. No officers have yet been formally notified of postings to other regiments, although 5 officers have been notified of postings to non-regimental duties outside the Scottish Division.

Some months ago, it was arranged that the disbandment parade of 1st Battalion, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders would take place at Stirling on 30th November, 1970.
