HC Deb 09 July 1970 vol 803 c88W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware of the recent increase in crime; and whether, in view of the fact that the police difficulty in dealing with it is due to their undermanning, he will release pressure on the Metropolitan police by ensuring that they do not process summonses against motorists for waiting for short periods on a yellow band.

Mr. Sharples

My right hon. Friend has no power to direct that the law shall cease to be enforced.
