HC Deb 09 July 1970 vol 803 c96W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether the inquiry into the redevelopment proposals for the Richmond Terrace/New Scotland Yard site is to proceed.

Mr. Peter Walker

The inquiry is due to start on 13th July in the Assembly Hall, Church House, Westminster, under Mr. Harold Willis, Q.C., to hear representations about the former Government's proposals.

The present Government are not in any way committed to this redevelopment scheme. I and my right hon. Friend the Minister of Public Building and Works have not yet had time to form a view of its merits. We have, however, decided that the inquiry should go ahead as planned since we consider that the evidence which will be put before the inquiry and the inspector's report are likely to be of assistance to the Government in reaching a decision.
