HC Deb 07 July 1970 vol 803 c48W
Sir Clive Bossom

asked the Minister of Transport how many railway level crossings on public roads have been replaced by bridges or tunnels during each 10-year period since 1920.

Mr. Michael Heseltine

A large number of highway authorities are concerned in the replacement of public level crossings, and no central records are kept. But the Railways Board informs me that at least eight new bridges or tunnels replaced such crossings during the period 1950–59, and at least 21 during the period 1960–69.
