HC Deb 29 January 1970 vol 794 c386W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what special arrangements he is making to enable persons from industry and Government establishments, including the services, to transfer to school teaching;

(2) what machinery he is setting up to assist in safeguarding or transferring pension rights, and to provide adequate training grants during any retraining period of those who transfer from industry, Government establishments or the forces to the teaching of science and mathematics in schools.

Mr. Edward Short

Persons from industry or government establishments who take a course of teacher training are eligible for grants, including where appropriate additional grants payable to mature students and those with dependants. Late entrants, both graduate and non-graduate, form an important element in each year's entry into teaching.

On transferability of pension rights I would refer my hon. Friend to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland's answer yesterday.
