HC Deb 29 January 1970 vol 794 cc373-4W
39. Mr. Shinwell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many industrial disputes have been negotiated and settled by the Trades Union Congress since she accepted responsibility for intervention.

Mrs. Castle

I understand that in the period June to December, 1969, the T.U.C. intervened in 110 disputes. In the great bulk of those, stoppages were averted or curtailed. The Government welcome the T.U.C.'s vigorous efforts, in co-operation with the unions concerned, to give effect to the policies of positive intervention in serious unconstitutional and inter-union disputes, which were the basis of the understanding the Government reached with the T.U.C. in June of last year.
