asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what advice he has given to the Burgh of Stromness and Shetland County Council on the implementation of his directions for economy in the light of the increased costs consequent on the amalgamations of the water and police services by the direct order of the Government.

None: but I have given appropriate advice to water boards and joint police committees, which requisition for their expenditure on individual local authorities.
