Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the number and type of hospital beds closed as a result of staff shortage in the area of the North East Regional Hospital Board; and in which hospitals these beds are situated.

Owing to a shortage of nursing staff 67 beds are closed at present, 35 at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and 32 at Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen. The types of beds affected are as follows:
