HC Deb 28 January 1970 vol 794 c356W
Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of the number of new voters eligible to be entered for the first time on the 1970 electoral register; and how many in fact were entered on the electoral lists published on 28th November, 1969.

Mr. Ross

It is estimated that in Scotland there were about 369,000 persons aged 21 or under at 10th October, 1969, who were eligible to register as voters for the first time. The statutory provisions governing the compilation of the electoral lists and register do not make it possible to identify new voters separately from other persons added to the lists, other than those in the age group referred to in the reply given to the hon. Member on 21st January.—[Vol. 794, c. 481.]

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many claims and objections were lodged regarding the electors' lists published on 28th November, 1969, and what was the number of claims and objections lodged regarding lists published in each of the past five years.
