HC Deb 28 January 1970 vol 794 cc363-4W
77. Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government the number of dwellings started in the North-West in each of the years 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969 and his estimate for 1970, distinguishing between the public and private sectors.

Mr. Freeson

The figures are:

PERMANENT DWELLINGS STARTED IN THE NORTH WEST ECONOMIC PLANNING REGION 1966–1969
Thousands
Public Sector Private Sector Total
1966 22.9 23.5 46.5
1967 22.3 28.4 50.7
1968 23.0 25.6 48.5
1969 26.6 20.6 47.2

It is too early yet to estimate the starts for 1970, but my right hon. Friend hopes that local authorities will not relax their efforts in view of the present housing needs of the region.

78. Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government the number of dwellings completed in the North-West in each of the years 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969 and his estimate for 1970, distinguishing between the public and private sectors.

Mr. Freeson

The figures are:

PERMANENT DWELLINGS COMPLETED IN THE NORTH WEST ECONOMIC PLANNING REGION, 1966–1969
Thousands
Public Sector Private Sector Total
1966 22.1 23.9 46.0
1967 20.9 24.6 45.5
1968 19.8 27.2 47.0
1969 21.2 22.1 43.3

On present indications it seems that the completions for 1970 should be of the same order as those for 1969.
