Mr. Gregoryasked the President of the Board of Trade what use the Board of Trade has made of the new method authorised by the Anti-Dumping Act 1968 for assessing the margin of dumping from state-trading countries; what use it has made of the new power given by that Act to impose provisional charges to duty; and how many applications for provisional charges have failed and why.
§ Mrs. Gwyneth DunwoodyThe new method of assessment was used in respect of imports of cheap alarm clocks 335W from five of these countries, and appropriate action was taken. Provisional charges to anti-dumping duty have been imposed twice. There were three cases in which provisional action was applied for but not taken. In two cases, the applications for a definitive duty were subsequently withdrawn, and in the third case the application was rejected after full investigation.
