asked the President of the Board of Trade what action the Board of Trade has taken to publicise to British industry the procedure for making anti-dumping applications.

After the enactment of the Amendment Act of 1968, the board produced a revised and extended leaflet for guidance of applicants. This has been widely distributed, and attention was drawn to it in a leading article published in the Board of Trade Journal on 23rd July, 1969, which was noted by the national press. Board of Trade officials are ready at any time to explain to interested inquirers the procedure for making an anti-dumping application.

British industry his Department has received the highest number of applications concerning dumped imports; and what protection has been afforded by antidumping action.

More than a quarter of the total number of 115 formal applications received since 1957 have come from the chemical industry, which made 33 applications. Anti-dumping action was taken in 18 of its cases, nine were rejected and six were withdrawn by the applicants before the investigation was completed. The Government's willingness to act where a sufficient case is made out has probably had a deterrent effect on potential dumpers.
