asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will now announce the membership of the Departmental Committee on Criminal Procedure in Scotland.

As I informed the House on 3rd December, the Lord Advocate and I are very pleased that Lord Thomson has accepted the chairmanship of this committee, the terms of reference and full membership of which will be as follows:

Terms of Reference To examine trial and pre-trial procedures in Scotia id (including appeal procedures) for the prosecution of persons accused of crimes and offences; and to report whether, having regard to the prevention of crime on the one hand and to the need for fairness to accused persons on the other, any changes in law or practice are required.
