HC Deb 28 January 1970 vol 794 c342W
49. Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on his proposals for repairs to, and the extension of, the runway at Aldergrove Airport.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

I have nothing to add at present to the answer I gave to the hon. and learned Member for Antrim, South (Sir Knox Cunningham) on 19th January, 1970.—[Vol. 794, c. 75.]

Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will commence negotiations for the purchase of land to add a further 1,000 feet to the runway at Aldergrove Airport, thus extending its length to 8,000 feet.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

The main runway, which is 6,000 feet long, can be extended eastwards by 800 feet within the existing airport boundary. Negotiations are in progress for the purchase of additional land which would enable the runway to be extended by a further 1,500 feet as and when necessary.
