HC Deb 26 January 1970 vol 794 cc262-3W
Sir Clive Bossom

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the proportion of the national revenue obtained from motoring taxes in each year from 1960 to 1969; and what is the estimated proportion of the revenue to be derived from motoring taxes during the present year.

Mr. Taverne

The following table gives the percentage of Government revenue (as defined in Table 12 of the Financial Statement and Budget Report 1969–70) represented by the amount of duties on motor fuel, purchase tax on motor vehicles and vehicle excise duty. I regret that estimates for the current year are not available.

1960 11.5
1961 10.9
1962 11.1

1965 12.4
1966 11.7
1967 11.0
1968 12.1
