HC Deb 26 January 1970 vol 794 cc267-8W
101. Mr. Younger

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the original estimate submitted to him by Ayrshire County Council of its requirements for school building for 1970–71 and 1971–72; and what are the final allocations for the same periods, respectively, by his Department.

Mr. Ross

Education authorities were not asked to submit estimates of their total school building requirements. Ayrshire Education Authority, however, proposed in October, 1969, a programme totalling £2.6 million in the first part of the 1970–72 period and £3.1 million in the second part. This was later revised in discussion to £4.3 million over the two years. Their final allocation for the first part of the period and allocation for the second part have not yet been determined.

102. Mr. Brewis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what were the original estimates submitted to him by the counties of Wigtown and Kirkcudbright, respectively, of their requirements for school building and further education building for 1970–71 and 1971–72; and what are the final allocations for the said periods by his Department.

Mr. Ross

Education authorities were not asked to submit estimates of their total school building requirements. The final allocations for the first part of the 1970–72 period are £0.08 million for Wigtown and £0.07 million for Kirkcudbright. Allocations for the second part of the period have not yet been determined.

The authorities' estimates for further education building were:

1970–71 1971–72
£m £m
Wigtown Nil 0.04
Kirkcudbright Nil Nil

Further education building allocations for 1971–72 have not yet been determined.

103. Mr. Galbraith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the original estimate submitted to him by Glasgow for its requirement for school building for 1970–71 and 1971–72; and what are the final allocations for the same two periods, respectively, by his Department.

Mr. Ross

Education authorities were not asked to submit estimates of their total school building requirements. In November, 1969, however, Glasgow Education Authority discussed with my Department lists of projects for the two-year period 1970–72 totalling some £23 million. The authority later drew up a programme amounting to £2.5 million in the first part of the period and £6.698 million in the second part. Its allocation for the first part of the period is £2.5 million; its allocation for the second part has not yet been determined.
