asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that the 50 new pence coins are designed to have a life of 50 years, he will calculate the purchasing power of such a coin 50 years hence on the basis of inflation rates during the past five-year period and the preceding five-year period, respectively.
