§ Mr. Denis HowellThe total Exchequer grants to local authorities in England and Wales in 1968–69, including housing subsidies but excluding capital grants, was £1,621 million. The corresponding total for 1963–64 was £988 million.
The total of capital grants in 1968–69 is not yet available, but in 1967–68 the total amounted to £72 million compared with £27 million in 1963–64.
