HC Deb 22 January 1970 vol 794 cc184-5W
Mr. Anderson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what recent representations he has received about the exclusion of South-East Monmouthshire from the Welsh Development Area; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. George Thomas

My hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State received a deputation from local authorities in South-East Monmouthshire on 21st November, 1969, who pressed for the area to be scheduled as an intermediate area. My hon. Friend explained the broad criteria for scheduling such areas and said that, while it had not been possible to accord this status to South-East Monmouthshire, the problems of the area would be kept under close review.
