HC Deb 21 January 1970 vol 794 cc134-5W
Mr. Blaker

asked the President of the Board of Trade what has been the amount of the payment by Her Majesty's Government in each of the three financial years from 1967–68 to 1969–70 to the British Travel Association for the purposes of encouraging holidays at home.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

The grant-in-aid to the British Travel Association has not normally included a self-contained provision for encouraging holidays at home. In 1967–68 the grant-in-aid included a special contribution of £300,000 towards a major Home Holidays Campaign. In 1968–69 the Association allocated £106,000 for this type of campaign. The corresponding figure for 1969–70 is not yet available. Expenditure from the grants in aid on these campaigns does not represent the total amount of expenditure which could have had the effect of encouraging holidays at home but could not be precisely quantified.
