HC Deb 20 January 1970 vol 794 c96W
59. Mr. Lomas

asked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement on the number of road deaths and accidents during the Christmas and New Year period, indicating how many of these were due to persons driving under the influence of drink.

Mr. Mulley

Provisional road casualty figures are as follows:

Deaths Serious Injuries Slight Injuries
Christmas Eve 28 304 905
Christmas Day 25 168 507
Boxing Day 13 149 505
Saturday, 27th December 8 160 422
Sunday, 28th December 3 98 252

Separate figures are not recorded for the New Year period. When the final figures are available about the end of February, I shall, amongst other things, look closely at the number of positive breath tests taken following accidents.
