HC Deb 20 January 1970 vol 794 c89W
48. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what acount was taken, in preparing the White Paper, Public Expenditure 1968–69 to 1973–74, Command Paper No. 4234, of the need to increase substantially the salaries of such public servants as nurses and teachers, and others within the public service who are currently paid at rates below national average earnings.

Mr. Diamond

The price conventions in which the White Paper is expressed are consistent with public service pay maintaining its normal broad relationship with pay in the private sector.
