asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what increase in staff of the Inland Revenue in Scotland has taken place in the last six months to deal with the backlog of tax claims and queries.

At 31st December, 1969, the total number of staff in Scotland in the Chief Inspector's Branch was 3,548 as compared with 3,536 at 30th June, 1969. Over the same period the staff of Centre 1 East Kilbride had increased from 1,084 to 1,632.
