HC Deb 19 January 1970 vol 794 c24W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in view of the continuing British obligations under the Anglo-Malaysian Defence agreement, what information he has been given about guerilla activities against Malaysia on the Thai-Malayan border; and if he will make a statement about British and Malaysian arrangements for defence of this border against attack.

Mr. Luard

The situation arising from current communist guerilla activities on the border between West Malaysia and Thailand is an internal matter affecting the Governments of Malaysia and Thailand, who have joint machinery for co-ordinating their operations. No question of British arrangements has arisen. The Malaysian National Operations Council recently stated that firm measures were being taken and that the situation was well under control. It is not the practice to disclose information which may have been passed to us in confidence about internal security matters in other countries.
