HC Deb 19 January 1970 vol 794 cc38-9W
Sir R. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what changes in the Opticians Act, 1958, will be necessary on Great Britain joining the European Economic Community.

Mr. Crossman

It is not possible to forecast what changes might be necessary until it is known what arrangements are agreed upon by the Six for the mutual recognition of qualifications and for the elimination of existing restrictions on the freedom of opticians to practise throughout the Community. I understand that draft directives concerning these matters are at present under discussion within the Community.
