HC Deb 19 January 1970 vol 794 c28W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) what representations he has made to Denmark on the potential extinction of the Atlantic salmon;

(2) what representations he has made to the Government of Sweden on the potential extinction of the Atlantic salmon;

(3) what representations he has made to the United Nations on the potential extinction of the Atlantic salmon.

Mr. Luard

I will, with permission, answer this Question and Nos. 32 and 33 together. We have discussed the question of high seas fisheries for salmon with the Danish and Swedish authorities, and have circulated a statement of the British attitude to States members of the two North Atlantic Fisheries Commissions, which are the international organisations most directly concerned. Though we are concerned about the present situation, we would not accept that there is at present a danger of "extinction" of Atlantic salmon.—[Vol. 305, c. 1383–4.]
