HC Deb 26 February 1970 vol 796 c390W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity why she has referred many cases of wage and salary increases of industrial workers to the National Board for Prices and Incomes; why she has declined to refer the question of salaries paid to Members of Parliament to this Board; and whether she will make a statement.

Mr. Harold Walker

References to the National Board for Prices and Incomes on pay questions affecting industrial workers have been made in the light of the characteristics of the cases and the considerations of prices and incomes policy; my right hon. Friend the Lord President of the Council announced on 24th July, 1969, that the Government considered that the whole question of the level of Members' salaries should be referred to the N.B.P.I., or its successor, during the next Parliament.
