HC Deb 26 February 1970 vol 796 c385W
64. Mr. Brooks

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity whether she will make a statement on the dispute in the Girlings Bromborough factory which has led to substantial layoff of workers during the present week.

Mr. Harold Walker

Owing to an unofficial stoppage of work over piecework prices involving 112 machine operators and fitters at Bromborough the company has laid off 1,400 other employees, and supplies of brakes to motor firms have been halted, leading to further extensive lay-offs. I understand that following unsuccessful attempts on Tuesday the union is making further efforts today to secure normal working. I am keeping in touch with developments.
